The Sri Lanka University Games 2013, also known as SLUG 2013 came to a close last week with the hosts, University of Moratuwa winning the overall championship. This festival of sports is a very important event in the university community and stands apart from all other inter-university sports competitions. 14 universities competed in 35 events under 22 sporting categories in this year's games.

The closing ceremony of the 11th Sri Lanka University Games, more commonly known as the SLUG, was held today at the University of Moratuwa (UoM) grounds, marking the end of another legendary inter university sporting event.

The Chess encounter of SLUG 2013 came to an end with UOM winning the men's championship and UOC walking away with the women's championship.

Sri Jayawardanepura won the athletics battle but Moratuwa won the overall SLUG war and was crowned the champions of SLUG 2013 season. Moratuwa won the SLUG overall champions title for the first time in the SLUG history. 3 SLUG records were broken today in Diyagama. 2 of those record breaking performances came from Japura and the other record came from Peradeniya.

It was shouted all around as the warriors of Universities fought for their alma mater in the aggressive game of Taekwondo a distinct branch of Martial Arts heavily based on strikes delivered as kicks. UOM emerged overall champions as well as men’s champions today on the mat at their home grounds amidst the Heart Stopping action of Taekwondo. UOK Women’s emerged Women’s champions with some emphatic flawless performances.

The second day of SLUG chess continued today at UOM premises with the 3rd and 4th rounds. At the end of the day, after completing the two rounds, UOM was leading in both men’s and women’s categories. UOP and USJP were in the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in the Men’s category, while KEL and UOC occupied the corresponding positions in the Women’s.
